Meet the Tax Assessor

Norman A. Cannady, Jr. currently serves as the Tax Assessor of Madison County. He was elected Tax Assessor in 2015. He is a Certified General Appraiser, Licensed Real Estate Broker, Licensed Real Estate Builder, and Licensed Mass Appraiser. He is also a Certified Mississippi Assessment Evaluator, the highest designation conferred by the Mississippi Department of Revenue.

In December 2014, Norman was appointed by Governor Phil Bryant to represent Congressional District 3 on the Mississippi Appraisal Board. Norman currently serves on the Audit Committee for the Mississippi Chapter of the International Association of Assessing Officers. He serves on the Governmental Affairs Committee for the Central Mississippi Realtors. Norman also serves on the Legislative Committee and Real Estate Licensed Appraiser Committee for the Mississippi Association of Assessors and Collectors.

Norman Became the Chief Appraiser of Madison County in 2003. In that capacity, Norman attained every mass appraisal designation awarded by the Mississippi Department of Revenue.
For over 15 years Norman has taught courses through the Mississippi Department of Revenue focusing on various subject areas of the appraisal industry.

Norman has been involved in real estate for over 25 years. In 1992, he became a licensed salesperson and, in 2002, earned his broker’s license.  In 1998, he became a licensed appraiser and is now a certified general appraiser. Norman has owned and operated his own real estate brokerage, investment, and appraisal companies.

Norman is active in many organizations including the Central Mississippi Realtors, Mississippi Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, International Association of Assessing Officers, Mississippi Chapter of the International Association of Assessing Officers, and Madison County Business League and Foundation.

A native Mississippian, Norman holds a Bachelors of Finance and Real Estate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, and lives in Madison with his wife, the former Ashley Eley. Together they have two children, Eley and Emersyn.
